SSRC is excited to announce that Dr. Mohammad Adil Dar has been selected to be the recipient of SSRC’s 2026 McGuire "MAJR" Medal. We invite you to join us in congratulating Dr. Dar on this accomplishment, and encourage you to attend his accompanying presentation on Tuesday, April 13 at the 2027 Annual Stability Conference.

Meet Dr. Dar


Dr. Mohammad Adil Dar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, India. He received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where his research focused on the behaviour and design of cold-formed steel (CFS) built-up columns. He worked as a Postdoctoral-Fellow at the National University of Singapore and as a Marie-Curie-Fellow at the University of Sheffield.


His research focuses on the stability and design of CFS structures, advancing mechanics-based design methods for lightweight-steel structural-systems. He has authored 63 journal-papers, 39 conference-papers, and 18 book-chapters. He currently serves on several international technical committees, including SSRC Task Groups (TG-02 & TG-05), ASCE-8 Stainless Steel Cold-Formed Sections Standards Committee, ASCE-SEI Cold-Formed Steel Members Committee, ASCE-SEI Structural Members Committee, IStructE Structural Futures Committee, and IStructE Sustainability Panel. He is also a Fellow of SEI and an Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Structural Design and Construction Practice.


2026 MAJR Medal


The McGuire Award for Junior Researchers (MAJR Medal) was established in honor of the late Professor William “Bill” McGuire, a long-term member of SSRC, who emphasized that state-of-the-art research is instrumental to improve the quality of stability design. The award recognizes the research activity of the candidate in a period not exceeding ten years after obtaining their Ph.D. degree.  


Dr. Dar was chosen for his high-quality and innovative research focusing on the structural stability of cold-formed steel members, his strong record of professional engagement seeking to translate research into practical code-based provisions for designers, and his dedicated involvement with SSRC. He will be presented with the award at the 2027 SSRC Annual Stability Conference in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Dar will also give a lecture in conjunction with the SSRC Annual Business Meeting on April 13.
